I should put a 735 badge on my 750iL, what do you think? Haha.
Those in the know would recognize the square tips on the exhaust. But, you might surprise a few V8 engined luxury sedan drivers who thought they knew what a 735iL was.

mikev, that is excellent!!!!

dan, actually, i like this understatement badging. my dads 750 had a 728 badge on it. just for fun. and the good part it is not even posing. it's just lying [hihi]. the surprise effect is indeed there.
I would not mind the exhaust tips as only few that know might see the difference.

The ultimate trick would be to leave the original badge on and upgrade the engine. For instance keep the 318ti badge on your car, but you have a 4.5 liter supercharged V8 under the hood.

Good idea about the //M318 badge on the 750. Not sure what to put on mine. I could have like a ///M1500, //M1502 or something like that made up. But I'm not sure exactly what the 1500 and 1502 models were. Possible motorcycles? [rofl]

The 1500 was the first modern BMW sports sedan, of the Neu Klasse. Introduced in 1961, it looks similar to the 2002, which was the ultimate version of that platform.

I don't think M-cars should be de-badged. I can accept a badge-delete option from the factory, but once it has the badge, it should remain as such.

Just another opinion; there will be more. I have to go to bed early. Another day at the track awaits.

I can't vouch for other parts of the world, but in New Zealand we must do things a little different. The BMW nonmenclature seems to have been throught the grinder in recent times... eg- my E46 318 is a 2.0L (go figure).

Lets come back to the badging, using the 318 as an example:
1. BMW NZ sells the standard 318i at about $US 37,000
2. You could go the upgraded 318i SE if you pay an extra $5,000. That gets you leather interior, foglamps, 7-spoke 16" wheels, parking sensor, auto-aircon & lots of other little things.
3. You can get the Motorsport kit upgrade, about another $4-5,000 on top of the SE price. They upgrade the suspension, put on the phat M 17" wheels & tires, front & rear spoiler, M steering wheel etc etc. They also delete the model badge, and put the ///M emblem instead.

It's still the SAME ENGINE as the basic 318i.

So should this car wear the ///M ??? Everyone knows its not an M3, M5, not pretenidng to either.

That is exactly what I am talking about......well almost. Since the car I had was a Jahreswagen(show model for us Americans) I did not get to select all the options I wanted on the car. Sooooo am I wrong for wanting to get the "M" emblem that I would have gotten had I bought the car new? How can ANYONE say the car manufacturer is wrong for having cars made that have the symbol(or some form of the symbol) on the trunk is beyond me. It can be your personal opinion not to like it. But you cannot say it is wrong if the car manufacturer does it too. The new five series is starting to grow on me by the way......some better looking rims really set it off..........
