Congratulations.

Make sure you have somebody check it out before you take possession.

The 'bargain' BMW can quickly become a nightmare when things start to break.

Make sure the timing belt is up to date, which is a known E30 weak spot.

Get the Bentley manual (now that you have the car, no more excuses on that one) and the 3-series enthusiast's companion.

If it doesn't work out, I know a nice E36 . . . [;)] [:D]

It's my friends car, and he's driven it for about a year or so. It's in excellent condition and I know he wouldnt sell it to me if it had problems.

Timing belt is fine, and I would buy your e36 but 4k is my budget and this just fits into it, so sorry [:p]

They were hesitant to sell a car to a friend becuase they were afriad of it coming back to bite them in the ass. It's probably one of the best condition e30's you'll find so i'm not worried about it.

I'll be replacing the driveshaft center support bearing and the guibo (sp?) by myself, and those parts are cheap.

I would still have the car checked out.

You don't want to lose a friend if something major breaks in a few months.

Even if he is an honest guy, and I have no reason to think he is not, there still could be a hidden problem with the car.

A little bit of time and money now could save a lot of both in the long run.

I'm obviously no newbie here, and not exactly a newbie to BMW's except that i dont own one. Well, my friend is selling his 1987 325is to me. It's in excellent condition, and that car is what really got me in to bmw's.
After all the money is worked out, I should be buying it within 2 weeks [:)]
The paint is in excellent condition, interior is great, and it's fun to drive.

Here are some pics he took the other day.

Paint is SUPER shiny (except for the lip on the trunk...but that happens to almost all e30's that have the plastic lip spoiler.) Also, that is birdshit on the last pic.
Real nice epj3, reminds me of my 316i in blue. Classic look and you will be happy with it!

The time I drove it, i thought it was great! I stalled it once but the rest of the time i drove it fine for a few miles on back roads (of course i shifted like shit).

But i'm a very quick learner with stuff like this, so I should be shifting fine pretty soon. Then I can have some real fun [:D] (Don't worry though, I wont beat up the car.. just drive it like BMW wants me to drive it!!)

I'm picking the car up tomorrow (jan 2nd) :-D
Wow, congrats on the bimmer!! The model your getting is the first BMW I ever drove, and the one that got me hooked and convinced me to buy one all these years later (Even after test driving all sorts of cars since then).

I remember a bike trip we took into the mountains of N. Georgia, on the way back I was driving my buds 325is, as he had sprained his ankle and couldn't shift (Manual! woooo!) We had the 2 of us, and 2 bikes strapped on the back. I was crusing in 5th, and dropped into 4th for some mountain climbing and was blown away by the torque and constant acceleration even on the big climbs. Of course he's laughing at me telling me to floor it even more! :)

Awesome ride!

Hahaha I know exactly what you mean, and that kind of stuff is what impressed me too!!! The few 'econo' cars, which is what most 17 year olds buy, have trouble making it up hills and this thing takes any road like it's nothing (except snow.)
