All this talk about shark fins, BMW assist, compatibility with Sirius. I can't wait until delivery of my 330 cic that is supposed to have Sirius installed (at the dealer) with no mention of any incompatibility with the BMW assist (pointed out during the "sale"). Not to mention that there's no shark fin on the cabrio. I'm looking forward to hearing how it all will work.

Ok, asked this on the 5 series page, but seems like you guys have more info then they did... I just bought a new 5 series with the iDrive system. So there is an SOS button for BMW assist, but no Assist button. Thought I was able to get to assist through the iDrive screen, but when I click on it, I get a message about contacting my dealer for more info. For the first year, I thought BMW Assist was included. Any ideas?? By the way, my dealer didn't have the answer when I asked him, he said he'd have to research it.

My salesman had me set up the BMW assist during the delivery. Apparently if you don't do this soon enough, you may lose the first free year. When you push the SOS button it sends the car location at that point. Since I was driving home while talking to the person at BMW Assist, she could only tell me the location of the car when the button was pushed; that is, she wasnt "tracking" me. Obviously, in an accident, the car doesn't move. However, I don't think the SOS button is for the concierge service. There's a phone number to call for that. Has anyone been using the SOS button repeatedly for concierge and, if so, is it ok?? Since there's no shark fin on the cabrio, the Sirius antenna is the black "mouse" mounted in the middle of the trunk--a surprise for me. However, I love the Sirius service and would recommend it.

Now, obviously the Assist/SOS button is tied to a cellular number. People have gotten calls through their Assist phone number. Supposedly, this number is printed on some card. What card?? I asked about this during delivery and was told I would get something in the mail after registering. It's been a little over a month and no card. Should I be getting something or did my dealer hold something back with that magic number on it??

I’m with BMW of North America, LLC. We’re glad to hear that you’re enjoying your new 530i with sport package.

Regarding your iDrive question, you do not need a handset installed in your new 530i to use the BMW Assist through the iDrive. Any 2004 BMW with BMW Assist does not need a handset installed in the vehicle. Also, for MY2004 (> 09/03 for 3 Series) the BMW Assist option includes its own GPS receiver and antenna, eliminating the need for the On Board Navigation System on all models except 7 Series, where it is standard.

BMW Assist is an invaluable group of services that help ensure your travel safety, security and convenience. With BMW Assist, you have 24-hour-a-day access to Emergency or Roadside Assistance at just the push of a button or even automatically in the event of a serious accident.
