Congratulations. My first BMW was a 1998 540i that I took over the lease on in Dec 1999. It was a great ride. I was 27 and had just graduated from dental school 6 months earlier. When I gave that up in Feb 2001, I got a 1998 Toyota 4Runner. wanted to try the SUV thing out. I hated it. So, while I kept the 4Runner, I also got myself a M Roadster about 3 weeks after I got the Toyota. I subsequently totalled the 4Runner on an icy road in Dec 2001, which I replaced with a 2001 A4 1.8T.
Then I met a girl and started thinking about marriage, a house, kids etc. I started thinking that all that money that was going to car payments every month would be better spent elsewhere. However, being a car guy, I refused to give in to the notion that I had to be entirely practical and buy a Honda Accord. Fortunately, my wife to be understands my love of cars and isn't entirely unaffected by that particular love either. So, I took the roadster and the A4 to the BMW dealership and made a deal for a 2002 BMW 330Ci with the M sport package. Incidentally, my wife misses the roadster almost as much as I do.
So here I am, I 've had the 330 for just over 2 years now. It's the longest I've ever had a car since the 94 Acura Integra that I had for 3 and a half years while I was in school. Long story short, while I may have strayed a bit, I always came back to the B'mer.

Incidentally, my father, while he isn't a car guy, does enjoy a nice ride, so, he drives a 2001 Lexus GS300 that I got for him in Feb 2001.

Wow, that's a bit much. Don't get me wrong, I love BMWs, but I don't obsess over them. My parents bought me my 323i the summer before I went to college. There was a point, when I first got my car, that I would just sit in it and listen to the radio, but I never had the urge to sleep in it. Now that I'm out in the working world (i-banking), and you see some the cars that guys here drive (360 Modenas, Cayenne Turbos, S600s--I'm NOT exaggerating), it's not cool to oogle over a "mere" 3 series, or M3 or Corvette or anything less than 70K, for that matter. An insititutional broker on my floor just got a 760Li, he's in late 30s, and pretends like it's just a regular car; he's not flashy about it all. Any one else find Bimmer owners like that?

Welcome to the forums. Nice story! I am happy for you dad that he finally got his dream car. That itself is a special moment. Just because your car doesn't cost above 70k does not mean one cannot get excited for the car they love no matter what age/class it is. If someone works hard all their life and is finally able to purchase the car of their dreams; that is what it's all about. Some just don't get excited over cars in general. Not they’re cup of tea, but others do. I love my car. My five-year-old calls our SUV the truck, but when referring to the car she always refers to it as the BMW. She loves that car and was so upset when I sold the 328i. Those are moment you always remember. How it can affect others.
Neither of my parents are car people, they drive whatever car for years........for some reason I have always wanted some new car.....when I drove my two week old car to Tennessee last summer, my Daddy and I rode over to Cherokee, North Carolina for some gambling, we came across a caravan of Miata's and he said, Oh, there goes your car, I said, No Daddy.........he said, what is this car again, I stated emphatically, a BMW Daddy..........he said, is that made by Toyota........I still laugh at that conversation, it was such an innocent moment for a man who is 72 and a daughter who he never forgets to remind is not too big for her britches...
