Today's Wall Street Journal says that BMW credits strong sales of the new 5 Series for a 2.8% increase in net profit - a total of $509 Million, and a 5.1% increase in operating profit.

I guess that means that Bangle still has a job.

after seeing it i ordered a Windshield banner to replace my sun-dried tirerack one that says "Dare to be Square" old racing joke my dad came up with about his datsun that was virtually stealth since the only curves were the tubes used in the roll cage. (slightly exagerated)

Sounds like a political statement. Sales were already increasing this year. I would like to find actual unit sales information but have been unsuccessful so far. Also, I wonder who is buying the new 5. I have seen 3 so far, all older drivers, 60’s and so on; perhaps it will be a market substitute for like the Lexus and the Acura RL with its similar style and size.

Mine is at the processing center so I'm expecting it to be in my garage in a few weeks. I love the looks. I love the handling and ride. Hope we can get along guys, agree to disagree, that sort of thing. This is my first BMW and my first post on this forum.

Sure we can agree to disagree. They are nice cars. I think I would like them better with different front lights that did not extend so far to the sides.

Re: The 5 series

Maybe its me, but I think the new 7 series has nicer lines & with a minor facelift (which is on tap), the 7 could really rock ??

Perhaps the next facelift could smooth out the 5 ?? which I dont like nearly as much as the new 7....from a looks point of view.

Naturally I hated to see the old 5 depart, she was a real stunning body style.

I also like the new 7 a bit better than the new 5. I understand that they are chaging the 7 again as it did not go over so well. Does anyone know what is being changed? I would not be surprized to see a few more 5 changes in the near future also.

I have seen at least three 5ers on the road in the past week. I wasn't able to see the people driving. I didn't like the new 5 when I saw the photos, but after seeing them in person at the dealer, I like them.

No, I like the 5 better than the 7. The trunk is the main sticking point for me. Can't stand that thing. It's softer on the 5 than on the 7. The 6 is still odd, but that's where I start to be able to tell what Bangle was trying to do.

I have seen several 5's on the road and they are georgeous[cheers]
The 7 is no beauty queen for sure, but all of the bashing is a bit much. I mean so it has a fat ass, like who doesn't?[fake]
