Hey Everyone... Newbie here. I'm shopping for a 3 series sedan for the first time (spent the last four years with a Land Rover Discovery). My price range is between 20K and 30K. I want to buy used, year 2000 or above. My Disco was a money pit as far as repairs.... Any recomendations for the most mechanically reliable 3 series model? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

They Are All Good But Check The Window Regulators For Noise And The Frt Suspension For Ball Joint Issues. Other Than That They Have Been Rock Solid.
Always Best To Get A Car Under Fact Warr Or Certified Car.

Get the newest CPO car you can afford. Also watch out for the moonroof. Has a similar problem as the window regulators. It fails cuz of some cheap plastic bit.

I wouldn't trust CPO cars as much as some others do. They tend to be in good condition, but I've read some horror stories in Roundel concerning CPO cars and warranty fiascos. My advice would be to have the car professionally checked, whether or not it's CPO.

If you can wait, consider the 2-series scheduled for 2005...

The M2 in particular, as pictured on the May Automobile Magazine cover, is sweet!!!

Definitely agreed. The June issue says the M2 should make it to North America in 2006.

low 20K, you could get a very good condition 1999-2000 328 or 323
high 20K to 30K, you could get a very good condition 2001-2002 325 and if lucky you might find 330 in that price range too.

with CPO you are sort of covered on all major repairs. all you have to worry is the maintence. (don't quote me on CPO covered, you will have to ask the dealer what's covered and what's not)

without CPO then you might consider Ext Warranty offered by BMW dealer as long as the factory warranty hasn't expire.

oh forgot to tell you, BMW has a higher maintence cost but they are german engineered and built (some africa) so they have excellent quality. and all cars will have problems when they are in a higher mileage and also it depends a lot on how the previous onwer has use them.

happy shopping,
