Hi, I am looking for a 325xi because I live in London ON. where we get an "amount" of snow. Is the 325i a car that will drive in the snow? The rwd scares me...does anyone have any thoughts? I am looking for an 04.

Welcome! Since you are concerned about it, if you go with a RWD such as a 325i, you should get a 2nd set of four wheels with winter tires. Set up this way, it will be as good as any other rear wheel drive car.

Welcome aboard Sandy!

if you live in a snowy region, i think it's best to get a separate set of rims/ snow tires for the winter. no matter what drive set up you have. snow tires work better that a/s tires in the cold, even if there is no snow.

i live in michigan, and during past 3 winters, i haven't had too much trouble w/ my rwd in snow. traction control kicks in sometimes, but never a fishtail. (ground clearance is the biggest issue i have in the snow, but i don't think it'll be that bad for the 325.) but you'll have to be the judge of that. awd does give you more confidence, and is little bit higher off the ground.

Thanks for the information guys. I get the same winter conditions as you do in Michigan and I bought a Subaru Legacy GT for that reason last year. I am still going to look for a xi I think but there are a lot of 325i's available so I thought I would post the question to anyone with experience with the rear wheel drive.

I don't really want to buy an Audi A4 before a 325xi but may have to if none come available.

spending...

I am looking to spend under 25 Canadian but I think I would be subjected to extra taxes if I brought a US car in...I'm not sure how that works. The package options aren't that cruciqal but I would like as much as possible in the car. A sun roof is a must, anything else would be welcome.

Does anyone happen to know the laws on importing cars?

you should talk to canadian consulate about importing fees, they should be able to direct you. i'm still kicking around the idea of shipping my car out to Korea. over there, the national taxation services assesses the fees (taxes). not sure how it works in other countries.

if you can import w/out taxes, then it should open up more options for ya, esp since you live so close, and canadian dollar has been pretty strong lately.
