On several threads I noticed that many of you were able to track your new cars by actually tracking the boat. How did you do it? I am going nuts looking at the "en route" on the web site and I just called the 800 number and it said "In Transit". Please help!! This will be my first BMW and I CAN"T WAIT. The test drive was all it took. Now I want my 530i.

Thanks for any help.

Since you're in Utah, you might not be able to track your boat. BMW uses two different shippers -- one for cars going to the east coast and one for cars going to the west coast.

You can only track the boats going to the east coast.

Get your VIN number from the Owner's Circle then go to:
http://www.2wglobal.com/www/WEP/Toolbox/Appl/CargoTracking/index.jsp

From there, click "Auto" and enter your VIN.

You'll either get something or you won't.

Good luck.

I feel for you!

My Status is "at port waiting a shipping vessel, no shipping information available"

Its been in this stage for 5 days now.....Its killing me. Although it snowed 3 inches in good old upstate NY last night , so I am not to mad today.

Have you tried tracking it on the shipper's site?

Many times, the updates from BMW are behind the actual information. The shipping site will show it on the boat before BMW changes your status from "at port...".

With my car, once the car got off the boat, the BMW 800 number reverted back to "at port..." even though it had said in transit a few days earlier.

Rule of thumb -- check all available tracking (800, OC, shipping, dealer) because they all have varying degrees of accuracy!

Thanks for all the help. The wait is Hell. Is there a trick to figure out who the shipping company is? I went to the site Rudy posted and no luck.

Might have to do a search unless someone pops up with the info. I remember I posted in a thread where I found my shipping info from a year ago. It was still on the website. Just needed my VIN. And I'm on the West Coast too. It was pretty cool. So, it's on this site somewhere.

Someone should be able to tell you what port cars destined for Utah arrive at. If the port is West coast, you're probably SOL.

If the port is East coast, like Charleston, SC, then keep hitting the shippers tracking because there's a good chance it'll show up there once it actually gets loaded on a boat.

Keep in mind that it's not uncommon for cars in Bremerhaven (the port they leave from in Germany) to sit there for 10 days or more before getting on a boat. Mine sat there exactly 10 days (give or take a day) before getting on a Wallenius Line boat. From there, it took about 12 days to get unloaded in Charleston.

Hope that helps.

Just an update. The OC, 1-800 number (auto response), and 1-800 (serv rep) all say my car is awaiting a vessel for shipping. Just checked W&W shipping and my car pop up for the first time.

It was loaded on 04/01 and left port on 04/02 - due to arrive in NY on 04/15 ------ getting closer.

Anyone wanna buy an 98 Audi A-4 quattro, 2.8L

The auto response 800 number will probably update overnight to "in transit".

Does your boat stop in Charlotte before heading to NY? The port at Charleston is very busy and sometimes the boats have to wait an extra day or two before they can come in. Mine was unloaded two or three days after the original date it was supposed to dock.

Obviously, if the boat is delayed in Charleston first, it'll be delayed in NY.
