Pardon my newness to the BMW, but could somebody please explain the Steptronic transmssion to me? How do the regular and sport modes differ? How should the car perfom in each mode? I have played with both modes and don't notice a big difference except maybe higher RPM's in sport mode. Also, what about the manual setting--I know this is just a pretend stick shift for people who hate clutches, but what is the best way to use it to get the most out of my car (if that is possible)? After all, I replaced my Camry with a 530i because I wanted something much more fun to drive than the boring old Toyota. Thanks. [driving]

put it in Drive Sport, that is the fastest. The thing is its still an auto, so when you shift in steptronic mode it goes through a torque converter just like an auto. This is slower than Drive Sport because the ECM can not predict, and thus prepare for your shift. Drive Sport is a more aggressive mode.

Thanks for the info. [cheers] I'm going on a long drive this weekend and will do some experimenting. Anybody know the RPM's for the different speeds in both modes? What are the best RPM's for shifting in manual? I usually just go by sound.[driving2]
