Hello everyone! This is my first time on the site. I have an '01 X5 4.4. It's great. It comes with the old Star Tac cell phone which has never been activated. I am debating giving up my Blackberry for the StarTac (because I hate the idea of having two phones). Does anyone know if there is another phone I could hook up with the original wiring? I really would have preferred the Bluetooth experience ....but I would have to change vehicles.

Thanks,

I dunno man. I'd just keep the Blackberry. I know the Startac was a popular phone and all, but it's pretty outdated nowadays. I'd just buy a car charger for the Blackberry and call it a day.

Dear Mr. Palumbo:

Thank you for contacting BMW of North America, LLC regarding your new 2000 BMW 740iL. The 7 Series is a great model vehicle, and we hope it is serving you well.

The only handset available for your vehicle is the CPT6000. Due to upcoming federal regulations, the CPT 6000 phones are no longer being activated for new service. Existing users will be able to continue their current wireless service on the handset, but new activations will be declined.

BMW is currently in the process of developing Bluetooth technology for all of our vehicles. We are trying to keep pace with the changing wireless market, and we understand our customers expect the latest technologies to be available to them.

At this time, we have no estimated dates of availability for Bluetooth technology in your vehicle. Please stay in touch with us through our website, www.bmwusa.com, and your local authorized BMW center for future updates on Bluetooth technology.

We appreciate your business. If you have any further questions, please respond to this e-mail or contact the Customer Relations and Services Department at 1-800-831-1117, Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., Eastern Standard Time.

Sincerely,

From what I get from BMW is that you are SOL - neither they nor Motorola support the Startac phone nor do they have Bluetooth solution for older BMWs in the 1999 or 2001 range (and it isn't likely they ever will)... My Startac needed repair and they can'tdo anything about it so I have a totally useless phone setup in my 7 and X5...

You could get something else, here in Oz we have something called the Supertooth which at my work retails for about $179 aussie. It basically clips on to your sun visor and connects to your phone, allowing the same freedom of not having anything connected to you. Might want to take a look at something like that, since it gives you the benfit of bluetooth and is reasonably priced.
