hello guys

i'm a new owner of an x5 and looking to modify the speakers & amps in the car (6.5"). can anybody recommend me some high end speakers in the market? pretty much set on the amps but still considering (currently) the jl audio xr653 csi 3 way system.

i'm not into loudness eg. hard rock/metallica but more into the jazz & slow kinda music.

your replies are appreciated. thanks

I heard that the kappa series by Infinity are very good, that is wha ti am planning on getting. Make sure you get the component set and not coaxials or triaxials. You can also go for a set of kappa perfects which are even more money but are supposed to be even better. Someone told me that 2 way speakers supposably offer better sound than 3 way speakers but I don't know, he said that the sound is more broken with 3 ways. If you want to go really crazy you can spend 3 grand or so on a set of 3 ways from Alpine but thats a little too expensive in my opinion, although they are supposed to be The Best Car Speakers in the World. Also, look at the db value of a speaker/speaker set, generally the higher the value, the louder the speaker is and worse quality.

So you wanna upgrade hnuh?
Depending on where your at you might want to look into some Blaupunkt pro audio components or some Diamond audio speakers, if those are to pricy for you Boston Acustic are vary god quality speakers. BTW dis reguard andreyiv's comment on the db value of the speaker, what you want to look at is the watts RMS, make sure the RMS matches or exceeds the out put of your amps.

I figured that is common sense to match those two up, didn't think it needed to be told. When you are looking at speakers of the same amount of watts RMS, you can see which one is louder and which one is higher quality sound when looking at the db level, am I right or what?

The db level is the senitivity of the speaker, hence the higher th db rating the greater the sensitivity. Greater sensitivity means greater sonic response and a clearer cleaner sound

Although I don't have them, I have read (many times) that the MB Quart Q-series are the speakers to have, no matter the budget.

Sorry but that just doen't fly! Speaker sensitivity means it will take less watts (power) to obtain an equal decibel rating from a less sensitive speaker. In other words it gets just as loud as a less sensitive speaker with less watts. In NO WAY does this have ANYTHING TO DO with SOUND QUALITY!

THANK YOU. I just heard that usually speakers with lower sensitivity can reproduce sound with more detail, less distortion in other words. And BMW Punk, don't call yourself a radio guy when all you do is dis other people without knowing much about the topic, I am sorry but this just doesn't fly on this forum, you can say I am not sure if the other person is right or not but don't completely disregard the person's comment and act like he/she doesn't even read this.

Good luck with the install. Let us know how it sounds. Anything will be better than BMW's stock sound system. Even the upgraded Harman/Kardon (Premium Sound, HAH!) system isn't up to my standards. This is an area that I believe BMW could improve upon ten fold....
