I don't know much about cars, but I need to get a very fuel-efficient car, as I am a commuter. Someone recommended getting a used Mini. I'm confused about the various years and models (the Cooper, the Classic, etc.). I believe there was a model year (in the 60s maybe?) when the gas mileage of Minis approached that of today's hybrids.

Can anyone educate me or recommend a good Web site where I can learn all about the older Minis?

Also, are they only available in standard transmission? And is it at all possible to find a good, used Mini for about $4,000 to $6,000?

I'd appreciate any guidance in the right direction.

Welcome, and you might try posting this in the Mini section. I know nothing about the old Mini's, however I do not believe they made anything but a manual transmission, nor do I think you are going to find what you want for 5-6 grand. You would be better off looking for an old e30 325.

I'd suggest a used civic or toyota Corolla, those things are very reliable and get around 38mpg on the highway from regular gasoline. Even the minis arent that fuel efficient...
