on board computer light

I have a 1987 535i and the on board computer light went out. I can see all the numbers on the screen during the daylight hours with the light from outside, but at night it is totally dark. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

do you know how to get into the computer to change the bulbs?

reach up into the sunglasses holder
you will find a hole
put your finger in it
push up and pull out

oh yeah
the bulbs are on the very top. sorta pentagon shaped and have a small slot in he top
just twist about 180 degrees and they come out

call your dealership and ask them, if u stop by them they can give you the bulb, but not sure if they can install it for you on the spot or what...

radio shack part# 272-1140 6v bulbs.

requires two bulbs.
