Ello to all first off! Second...the reason I'm now doing this and hope to be on more often. I'm looking at picking up an '83 733i and am wondering if there are sure things that I need to look at prior to buying. It has around 160k on it and needs new seats from what I saw in the 5 minutes that I looked at it while my friend was picking up some parts. I wouldn't call it the cleanest car in the world but it beats walking and what not. And I love the 7 series...Any help would be a start and I'm not affraid of working on it I just don't want to do it right off the bat. Later!

83-84 had some issues with soft lobes on camshafts and if an automatic they had issues with a clutch pack, if revved in netural they will blow the clutch pack leaving you with only a reverse gear! That said I had an 84 733i that went well over 250k.

Rock on! Thanks for the heads up! I'm guessing that there is an RPM range that causes the issue with the clutch packs? I was looking throug the Forums and didn't see but a couple 733i's or even E23's. I'm guessing that these are just older and not around like the E32's. Are there any other tranny issues that you know of on the auto's and is a stick swap something that can be done with out swapping out the motor? First auto I will have drivin in many years. *sigh* but in a BMW I think I'll make do! Also with the cam lobes is there a noise or sign when running that would let me know if that is an issue.....realy don't want to open the engine just yet?.
