Hello. I have one post in the 5 Series forum, but since this is the newbie forum, I wanted to come say hello and thank you all for all the valuble information here. I only recently began to consider buying a BMW, and so far I am leaning strongly towards the 530i, somewhere around 2000 to 2002. Great looking car inside and out. I do have a few questions. I keep seeing pictures and two things keep catching my eye. First, on the drivers side door (inside) there is something that says M123. What is this? Second, on the front and back bumpers there is what looks like a 2 x 2 inch or so square. Looks like a cover over something. What is that? Well, can't wait to find MY 530i. It's out there somewhere waiting for me to drive it. [driving2] .

The M123 sounds like an option code, I am not sure. The square cover is where the "tow hook" is placed for transport and tire down should your car need towing in the future. The eye bolt should be in your trunk tool kit.

Yeah that M123 thing looks like a switch or something. It's on the inside of the drivers side door.

The M123 board is for the memory seats. You can have three different settings.

You set the seat and side mirrors where you want them, push the "M" button and then 1, 2, or 3 and that sets the seat memory. That way if another driver (in my case my wife) drives it she can have her own seat settings and I don't have to fool around with the seats when I get the car back.

Advise with wax…

I waxed my car last weekend with F21 wax made by turtlewax and it turned out pretty good. The question is should I wax it every month, every car wash or until it needs it?

Wax it again when the water fails to bead off the car. Everyonce in awhile you need to strip the wax, use Dawn dishsoap for this.

Hey I've never heard of this method before. What's the logic behind it? Is it so you get a regular surface?
