Hi everyone. I've just bought a 520i and have a couple of problems which i need help with. First of all i've got an orange led and a red led lighting up on my instrument panel with the word "inspection" next to it. No idea what this means and can't find anything in my manual about it. Secondly my left hand side back passenger door won't open. I think its something to do with the cable that connects onto the door handle but because i can't get the door open, i can't get into the inside of the door trim.
Anyone got any ideas about these problems. Much appreciated if anyone has any answers.
Cheers

Okay, your red and orange LED does infact mean that you are due for an oil change... but really it means nothing.... I don't know anyone who follows this gauge for oil change intervals. It's probably been on for years. It can be reset with a special tool, or by jumping a couple of the terminals on your "reset tool" port in your engine compartment. I don't have instructions on how to do this for a 5er, but you can probably use the instructions for a 3.

Your rear door probably has the child safety switch on... meaning that it won't open from the inside, but it will from the outside. (Maybe you can't open it from the outside?). Anyways, the switch will be on the door, around where it latches to the door frame. Give'r a flick and see if that helps at all. Ignore that last part if it doesn't open from the outside.

Good luck!

Cheers folks. I'll read the instructions on how to reset the oil change light. The door won't open from the inside or outside. The door pin is up but im thinking that maybe the wire inside the door has detached from the door handle. Can't think of how to fix it as I can't get the door open to take off the door panel.

To heck with passengers in the back seat!!! You're not a taxi driver! [joke] .
I wish I still had my (first) parts car... I could have gone and ripped out the door cover, and taken a picture of the innards of a rear door so you'd know what to look for when you try to "slim jim" it open. Looks like you've got a date with a coat hanger:)

Let us know if the jumper wire works, or if you try it. (make sure it's a fused wire!)

Just to mention with regards to the oil change/service lights indicator, if you do not want to reset the lights via jumping cables, you can get a 'service light reset' tool for about £19 from www.eurocarparts.com

I bought one and have used it for the past seven years and it could be not be any simpler to use/operate.
