Hi Everyone,

I just recently bought at 2001 325xi. Every time I turn on the car my headlights come on. I don’t like the headlights on during the day. Does anyone know how to program the headlights so that they only come on manually?

Thanks

Those are daytime running lights...... call your insurance company and ask for a discount. Otherwise take it back to the dealer and tell them you don't want it programed with daytime running lights... though I don't see why you would.

[welcome] to the Board!

Are you talking about the daytime running lights? They are always on for safety. So your car is more visible during the day or when driving in Hubbard’s cave or Lower Wacker.

When I bought mine, the dealer said it was a remote programmable item, if I wanted them to be on when the car starts or after dark. I considered this a good thing and made sure mine are on all the time. Why have them if your not going to use them. They aren't meant for driving that's for sure.

Some insurance companies give a discount for it. Not all do.

It's not remote programmable. Remote programmable means it changes with each remote fob used. It is programmable, but you have to take your car in to teh dealer and they hook your car up to their machine and change the settings for you. Nice dealer will do it for free (since it doesn't take very long). Most will charge you like 1/2 hour's worth of labor. That's about $50 in my area.

When you buy a new BMW tho, they're supposed to give you a checklist of what you want and that's free. But, since you bought a used car, you're gonna have to shell out to change it unless you get a nice SA.

[welcome] Glad to see another person from the chicagoland area here!

You do have to have the dealer turn them off for you, but my vote would be to leave them on. It really does improve the visibility of your car for other drivers. Most new cars have day time running lights and some of them don't even give you the option of turning them off.
