Hey,
I bought my first BMW 3 and a half weeks ago and I'm totally loving it. It's a silver 318 IS Coupe M and it's such a lovely car to drive. I think the thing I like best about it is the fact that in 5th gear on the motorway doing 115k it still responds instantly to the accelerator and I can overtake someone in a second. (I used to drive a Renault Clio so this is a big deal for me!!)
Unfortunately I only had it a week and the damn camshaft sensor went but the guy i bought it from had it repaired.
Now the rearview mirror has come off the windscreen and i was wondering if anyone knows how to put it back on - or how much this kind of thing costs in a BMW dealers garage ( I live in Ireland).
There is a metal disc still attached to the windscreen, and nothing seems to have broken off the mirror itself. There is a kind of triangular disc inside the attachment from the mirror side thats loose and I don't think it should be. I've managed to pop the disc up so that it's not loose anymore and then it's possible to attach the mirror back to the windscreen, but as soon as you hit a bump it falls off again.
Anyone any ideas?
This is my first post - sorry i've waffled so much, i promise I'll get better!

I would guess youneed a new mirror or just that little arm that attaches the mirror to the windshield. It could be from around 5 dollars to anywhere around 40 bucks. I wish you luck with the mirror and welcome to the forum, you'll like it here.

They make special adhesives for reattaching rear view mirrors that you can get at an auto-parts store. Not expensive. I did it on a previous car and it was very easy.

Good luck.

Yes, you are correct, except one thing, the metal piece did not fall off the windshield so the adhesive is not needed to reattach it.
