My First BMW!!! SMG Question
Hello everyone. I'm also a newbie...my name is Quinn. I live here in Big D, Texas. I've loved BMW's forever. Growing up, my dad has always been an avid Porsche lover and driver. He used to order his Porsches from Germany and we'd drive all the way to L.A. and back to convert them. It was a good time.
When the third generation M3 came out a few years back, I realized I could spend half the money, and smoke my dad's Carerra. Unfortunately, I didn't have the cash, and I needed to haul stuff around, so I wound up stuck in a Ford Expedition. My wife was driving an '03 A4 1.8T.
Recently, I traded my Expo in for an ML500 (for her) and now I'm driving the Audi. But here's the cool part...the Audi lease ends in October, so I ordered an '07 550i!!!
Finally, I get to drive a BMW!! I can't wait. Even my dad, the Porsche lover, is excited. I must admit, he gave me some flack about not ordering the manual shift. Does that get me no respect around here??
I did, however, order the SMG. I know the 550i's version is not a real SMG, but at least I can still shift it. I did this for two reasons:
A) I drive 45 minutes to/from the office in heavy traffic every day
B) God forbid, if my wife ever needs to drive it, she has no idea how to drive a standard.
So here are my first few questions....
Does anyone already have the 550i SMG shifters? Do you use them? What are your thoughts, etc. I had to pay 1300 in gas guzler tax just to get them.
I can not seem to get an accurrate 0-60 time on this car. Does anyone have it? Where will I stand next to my Dad's Cayman S??
