My 328i is wired for a CD changer, and I'd like to see if there's an adapter available to hook up an iPod to the wiring harness. I'd like to keep the iPod up in the passenger compartment, and use the iPod remote to control it, but I want to run the sound directly through the CD inputs instead of using the FM transmitter option that I've been using in my old car. Anybody know of anything out there?

Hmm, interesting thing you got there. I personally know of only one way to hook up an iPod in an e36 and make it work right but that would envolve getting a new HU. Alpine makes an iPod adapter (retails for 100) that allows you to see the songs and control the iPod from an alpine HU. They say it works with all 2004 models, I don't know about 2003 though I am plaaning on calling them up about that option. You can try going to crutchfield.com and going straight to their tech support or something and just tell them that you want to connect the iPod in your bmw cd changer connector, there are some knowledgebale people there, they might help. Good luck and keep us posted.

I really want to know what you find.

I am a Mac guy also and just bought my 97" 328is today. I will ask my Mac tech guy and post here if I find anything.

Also, I own a KD-SX990 model of a JVC car stereo I bought last year a Circuit City. I has a 1/8 inch Aux. hole so you can plug a iPod into it directly. I am not sure I want to put it in my new car because the current HK one looks so good and sounds great. However if this model or one like it is still in production it might be an answer for you.

You should be able to get an AUX input adapter that plugs into the CD changer cable and gives you a set of RCA inputs. For example, the Blitzsafe and Soundgate adapters are supposed to work in 3-series from 1996-2004. Dension's IceLink will work too I think, if you want to be able to control the iPod using the head unit.
