if you look back it turns out Americans loathe i4 bimmers. so they were phased out.
rest of the world however, doesn't get to enjoy "cheap(er)" gas prices. and most countries tax based on displacement volume (in the form of yearly registeration fees). so 4 bangers thrive overseas, unlike the States.
