Help please!!??!!

Hey there!
I have a 1997 BMW318ise,
I wondered if it was possible for someone to give me some advice?

When I start the car everything is fine, then, after about 5 minutes the idle goes up from about 750rpm to about 2000rpm - there is no explaination for this.
If the car is at rest the engine obviously races to 2000rpm, if I am driving along the revs obviously fall to 2000rpm and when I come to stop and I turn the engine off and start it again I find I have flooded the engine and the car doesn't start!!!

I had a major service done on the car about 5 weeks ago - I don't know if this would make any difference.

Wondered what your advice would be???

Please help, I don't want to be charged £1500 for a new injection system!!

replace the oxygen then, or just clean the old one?
(I'm a novice at engines)

im pretty sure u usually buy one, instead of cleaning it. Im not 100% sure that thats it, but judging from the symptoms it really sounds like the sensor to me, its a inexpensive part and seems to be a common problem after a few years.. Try posting in the E36 section of the board, you'll definitly grab the attention of more people there..
