My son recently purchased a 1990 BMW 535 I, The A/C didnt work so he asked me to help... after checking it out the compressor seal was gone... bought a new compressor, installed it and it worked fine... Now the problem is.... When the A/C is on some of the vents put out heat... just like the heater is on.. I am assuming that there is a vacuum control problem.. Does anyone have a schematic or diagram for the heater control system so I can trouble shoot the system? Or does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be?
Thank you for any help you can give.

Welcome to the board.

Are some of them blowing cold air? I assume the 5 is similar to the 3 series. On the 3 series, there is a dial next to the air vent that has red and blue on it. You must spin it to the blue (cold) setting for A/C.

What you described sounds normal. Does the A/C come out of the dash vents just fine?

Maybe this helps

Try simply closing the floor and defroster vents, a/c doesnt come out of the floor anyways, and BMW designed it so if the thermostat in the dash goes bad (the little "vent" between the temperature control), and you have the defroster on...it'll send the hottest air up there.
