remember how i posted a while ago saying that i would ride in my boss's vette and every other corvette owner on the road would give the wave ass they passed by my boss?
well i admired that and had hoped that i could get the same reaction when i finally got my own bmw. things started off slow.. or more precisely, not at all. but i still kept trying. and finally just the other day i passed by a red e30 3-series and i casually waved from my e36 and sure enough, he responded with 'the wave'

it may seem daft to some, but i think i needed the reassurance that there are some bimmer owners around here that respect their cars, and the comunity of drivers, and were friendly enough to give a shout out.

Probably showin my age again, but everyone driving bimmers used to flash their brights at each other.

Still it amazes me how many BMW owners won't even acknowledge you sittin right next to them, let alone wave.

the ol' flash & wave is something z owners do too. most new 350Z guys are pretty oblivious to it, but you can almost always rely on owners of Z models before that

yea it seems that a lot of owners buy the cars becuase they ARE bmw's, and do not really have much pride in their cars. Vlad when i buy a bmw, if i ever see you on the road i'll wave and flash you (my lights...) [wave] [:)]

I [wave] & [thumb] to someone driving a brand new 745 while sitting at a red traffic light. As soon as he saw me he gave me a weird look and looked away! Clueless....

Yesterday, the wife, my 12 year old daughter & 2 of her friends were in the car with the top down, and a Ford Expedition with dark tinted windows pulled up along side them. The rear window went down and out popped the head of a halloween style Zombie mannequin! The girls started screaming and the Expedition sped off!![rofl] [rofl] [rofl] [rofl] [rofl] [rofl] [rofl]

I know what your sayin' i had a race with a subaru impreza WRX estate today and alougth he stomped on me until 90ish i started realing him in as we hit the ton and past. i thought that i deserved a little praise that my 14year old car managed not to loose him so i pulled next to him at a roundabout and looked across and typical rice boy style he ignored me in a way as if to say hah i beat you **** off you ****. i mean come on id give the 2 thumbs up if a 320i managed to stay with me!!!!

Glad to hear that :D

I also had a first positive experience with 'the wave'. It was about a week ago and I was sitting at a red light when a new 3 series pulled up beside me. We both looked over smiled waved/noded and he gave me a thumbs up. I was amazed! This was the first time another BMW owner had enough pride in his car to show that enthusiasm towards another BMW owner.

I wave at people sometimes, but very rarely get a wave back. When I do, it's nice. Seems not many people wave. Usually it's either Z3 drivers, or M series drivers that wave back. It seems around here that those are the only true bmw fans. Not saying others arent, but it's just that they're usually the only ones that wave back.

Maybe I'm as old as Vlad, but when I got my first bimmer in 1984 (318i) I couldn't believe how many other BMW drivers would flash their lights. It was awesome and I gladly joined in. I've been trying to revive the tradition lately but I'm sure the other drivers just think I'm warning them of a speed trap. Let's keep trying though. (You tell 2 friends, and they tell 2 friends, and ...)

When 745IL'ers plunk down 65 grand for their BMW's I think they do it for privacy and prestiege. They do not get the whole picture. It's true it is a life style, but we all share the road and fellow Bimmers should Unite.[:D] [:D] [:D]

They've switched the letters, which means they are 745Liers?

Well...I was (soon to be again) a Jeep owner & did the Jeep "wave".

I knew other car brands did the same & felt they were the only ones who did it.

Now in my BMW I nod with a smile or give a thumbs up [thumb]

I too have always been a BMW owner who flashed his brights at other BMW's. I know lets us start the trend again and when we see another BMW, regardless of owner, model, year or condition flash him/her. Then we readress this issue in six months and see if it is catching on?

I don't mean to knock the flashing lights idea, but perhaps a wave is better?

I see so many BMWs that I would be flashing my lights on a regular basis. I sometimes do the wave or a nod to those I drive past.

Although BMW has inspired a large number of afficionados, the fact is many people who own a BMW don't care about such things and are not interested in being part of the community. To them, it is just transportation.

I wanted to do 'the wave' when I first got my car, but since then I have discovered that most BMW drivers in Ann Arbor are either rich old white guys who don't give a crap about their car, or college students who are too into themselves to notice another BMWs.

Yeah, I'd like to do the wave too, but BMWs are mainly bought for status reasons here. [?|] Plus, they're usually driven by old snobby looking people or b!tchy girls.

I wouldn't flash my brights either in CA. That's asking to be shot or at the very least, road rage. People here don't know it can mean there's a speed trap ahead and they're too dumb to realize they haven't turned their headlights on so they assume the highbeam is a rude gesture.
