hi , i bought a e36 318is a few months ago and everything was fine, until yesterday i started the engine and i heard a bang, suddenly the car cut off, then wen i started it again it wasnt reving properly and it sounded as if the exhaust had blown, its still doing the same thing and i have no idea what is wrong with it, and every time a let go of da accelerator the car cuts off, also wen i do press the accelerator the revs keep jumping and tries to cut off, i have checked my air intake but it looks fine and i also put a new air filter in and its still the same, can someone plz help me thanks!!

I'm not sure if this is related but it might help. My dad's 740il was having problems recently where the car would idle but as soon as you hit the accelerator it would just die on you. Turns out the car had a faulty cam sensor which was stopping acceleration in order to prevent camshaft damage. I have a 318is too and i can tell you that the cam sensor is the spark-plug like attachment at the front of the engine. Check that and make sure its not leaking oil etc first.

Other than that I'm not sure what else could be the problem. Good luck.

i got it bak and its running real smooth, it was the vacume duno what that is, but it did happen bcoz of the airflow meter, so its all sorted, lucky it wasnt the head gasket, it jus changed it recently, i jus wanted to ask how many miles are you suppose to get out 12 liters of petrol on a 318is?
