Hi.
I have a 1994 525iSE, which I baught in January this year.
The car hasn't got self levelling and never has had it.
However, almost every time I use the car now, within a mile, Boing! a 'SELF LEVELING' code comes up on the display.

According to the previous owner, this fault wasn't there when I baught it, and the fault didn't occur during the first month or so of ownership, but it has steadily got more frequent, until now it is virtually a daily occurrence.

The only thing that might connect with the problem, is that a complete M-Tech suspension package, new arms, shock absorbers etc was fitted by a BMW main dealer about 2 years ago.

Any ideas of what causes this or how to get rid of the annoying flashing SELF LEVELING code would be appreciated.

Could it be the headlights? You could take the car to AutoZone and they'll plug it into their ODB II crap for free just to find out why it's giving you that light.

Sorry. I don't understand how the headlights could cause a 'SUSPN LEVELING' fault to show on the fault code display.
AFAIK on cars with it fitted, the sensor is on the rear axle.
My car doesn't have self levelling suspension, yet something is triggering the warning.
Presumably the ECU is getting a signal from somewhere.
Is there a specific input into the ECU for self levelling suspension when it's fitted?
Maybe removing or cutting the wire connected to it if there is one, would cure it.

try and find out if the body/suspension computer has ever been swapped out for another. If a 535 or 540 body computer was put in it, that may be where it is picking that up from., just an idea.

The car has been BMW main dealer maintained all it's life, so it's unlikely that any non std parts have been fitted.
It has a complete service history from new, and all the bills for money spent on it by it's 2nd owner from 1996, to January 2004 when I baught it.
Anyway, thanks for the input. It was a good idea. :)
