I don't understand. If you got the guibo off, how is the tranny still connected to the driveshaft? The guibo connects to the transmission output shaft on the front side and the driveshaft on the back side.

Perhaps he means that he got the bolts out of the guibo, but he can't remove the drive shaft? If his car is like the E36, the pilot shaft is still in the transmission. The drive shaft must be slid backwards so that the pilot shaft clears. This can be a pain.

Is your drive shaft 2 piece and have a slip collar in it? This looks like a large nut with a shroud on it. If so, loosen the collar. This will allow the front half of the shaft to slide to the back, allowing the drive shaft to be removed.

Some models might have the slip collar in the rear shaft. If so, you will need to remove the hangar bearing as well.

Ahh, yeah that makes sense. I bet you are right, Kirby.

On the E30, the slip collar is in the rear shaft so you have to drop the center support bearing to disengage the driveshaft from the output shaft pilot. I'm not sure if his car has a slip collar or not - I think it might actually have a CV joint at the differential (alot of the 6ers and 7ers did, and most of these driveshafts don't actually have a slip collar). If this is the case, you will definitely have to drop the center support bearing and bend the driveshaft at the center u-joint to disengage the pilot shaft.
