Got a 99 323i and the cigarette lighter seems to be out. Plug in radar detector, cell phone charger and no juice...Any ideas...Also living in a area that premium gas is not available all the time and some say if I use standard gas, the "Service Engine" light will come on. [ohcrap] New to the BMW world, just got it yesterday. Thanks

welcome and congrats.

blown fuse's a probably a good bet. i think it sits on top of the glove box opening, so look for it after opening the glove box.

there are various theories out there on merits of using the 93 octane vs other stuff. i for one find that i get a bit better gas milage w/the higher octane (which basically offsets whatever per gallon costs of going w/ premium) but that's just me. if you put in the lower octane stuff, your engine may not perform at its peak, via knock sensor.

Manuel, 83?? wow, i haven't seen anything lower than an 87 here..

I would stick with premium grade fuel, yes your cars computer system will compensate however over time deposits will build in your combustion chambers and on your fuel injectors. It is not worth the couple of bucks you save by skimping.

I think your cigarette lighter question has all but been answered. By the way, welcome to the board!

your engine management system will retard your engine through the knock sensors.

You can use regular but you will find out that your car is running slower. I would use plus as much as possible but using regular will not damage your engine
