Which in my opinion is EXTREMELY stupid (the smg-only option)
Agreed. No excuse for not having a clutch. I'm not against technology at all because we all know that the SMG transmission can help when downshifting & braking or other situations like that and that SMG obviously does way more perfect shifting than I can. But I think that having full control of the clutch is pretty important and is part of the fun of shifting, as well as rowing my own gears.

I don't like that the automotive industry is trying to get rid of my 3rd pedal. [:(]

I am not happy with the clutch pedal abscence. If you don't want to take the time to learn a standard, you shouldn't be driving an M, IMO. But what would the shift pattern for 7 forward gears be? [scratch] Is there a maufacturer with a transmission out there with a 7 speed traditional standard?

I noticed both the M3 and M5 had the cross drilled brakes. I was reading a bunch of threads on this subject. Most says it bogus and for looks ?

I don't think the cross drilled brakes have any loss in performance or any negatives (besides price), and since they're probably expected on a performace car in this price range, BMW put them on for styling and to one-up its competitors.
