I have replaced my stoplight switch on my 94 530i and all three light bulbs and I have cleaned up the contact points on the brakelight holders. I am still getting that annoying message. I bought the stoplight switch through an online OEM parts store. There were two switches listed with the same part # but one was cheaper than the other. I got the cheaper one!
