BMW more expensive than any other???

I'm considering a BMW for my graduation present. Since I'm staying in-state at a local university and living at home, I will have NO EXPENSES whosoever. Therefore, I belive I will have enough for the start up costs for a BMW (insurance, payment, etc.), however my biggest concern is EXPENSIVE REPAIR [kick] ! Everyone I talk to tell me not to buy a BMW (I would like a Z3, by the way) because the second it breaks down I will be up Crap Creek without a paddle. Is this true? Should I really be worried about paying for repairs before I even get the car, or is this really a valid point that I should be aware of? Thanks for ANY help!!!

A well maintained BMW is no more expensive to repair than any other car. A tune up on my Chevrolet truck if purchased at a dealer is going to cost between $300 - $400 dollars. I tuned my roadster up myself for less than $200. Like anything else if you neglect it, future repairs will add up. Why would you be up th e"creek" if a Z3 broke down vs say a Ford?

Oh and I deleted your duplicate post, please just use one forum for the same question.

They're expensive to fix, but so are just about every other modern car. It's mainly in the labor though. If you can learn to do your own, you'd save a bundle.
