I have a 1978 BMW 633csi E24. I noticed in the back there is 2 driveaxles one for each wheel, much like a CV joint system in a front wheel drive car. does anyone know about this technology, ive never seen anything quite like this.

This is what IRS (Independent Rear Suspension) is all about. Many American rear drive cars have a solid rear axle. Anything that happens at one rear wheel suspension is "hard linked" to the other wheel and will affect it. IRS isolates the rear wheels, generally giving better traction and handling.

IRS costs more to build, so it used to be only found on premium and performance cars, and is very much a European design philosphy. It is now finding its way into mid & lower priced cars as well. But even American "performance" cars, like the new Mustang, still use a solid axle.

There are many different designs. Bimmers use one similar to this, but the springs and shocks are mounted separately, not coil over shock as shown:
