Just wondering if any of you have advice on installing BlueTooth for hands free phone. Did you have the dealer do it before you picked up the car, did you buy and install it yourself. Is it worth it?

Also I've read different things, like if you have BMW assist you can't install BlueTooth. Is that true?

My car left the UK on it's way to NY, with any luck I'll see it with in 3 weeks.

The Bluetooth kit wasn't an option when I got my car. Since then it's become available, but the installation instructions made me a bit leary. Just not comfortable making a hole in my center console.

In your case, I don't think you can even add the Bluetooth kit. Since you ordered the Premium Package, you have BMW Assist. Bluetooth is not available with BMW Assist yet. It's supposed to be available in vehicles produced from 9/2004-on.

On the other hand, I've read reports here and elsewhere of people popping out some of the BMW Assist components and replacing them with the Bluetooth kit.

You could also spring for the CPT 9000 kit. Costs more than the Bluetooth kit, though.

Some others have said that you can install bluetooth even though you have bmw assist. The thing is though, you have to take the bmw assist module out as some of the conectors are also used by the bluetooth.

Here's a DIY site that I found from e46fanatics.com -- Looks like the guy did a good job on the instructions and I'm thinking about doing it myself as well. I'm going to lose the bmw assist, but I'm not going to pay 200+ dollars to keep it anyway.
