I personaly drive an 86 325e with about 150K mi. How serious do you want to get. If you want my recomendtion, it would be an e30 325is. They handle well and I would rather have the i motor rather that the eta.

i would just do it as a hobby, a side project. i dont want to hit it up hard but just for fun. but i have been recommended the e30. although, if i did want to get an e30 body, i think id go for the ///m. in fact i saw one today that was very attractive, in black. wow. thatd be it if i got one.....

I agree - a nice 325is is your best low money bet. The price difference from a good condition M3 and 325is (e30's) is a good 8-10k. With a 325is, and say 10k invested, you'd have a car that would blow away the same year stock M3.. Easily. New engine or rebuilt current one, SC (or turbo, your FI choice!), suspension work.. *drool* Better than the M3 with 10k invested is being stingy actually.. [:)]

I'm biased though because it's what I want to start working on in about a year or so. Just working on getting the wife into a bmw wagon first, then I can buy a car to track and really have fun with at road atlanta.. Without getting yelled at.. [;)]

But if you got the bucks, and can find a good e30 M3, (rare to see for sale, there are a few on autotrader, just to get an idea of the $) they are incredible..

Section_8, where exactly is Road Atlanta? I've been wanting to try Autocross for awhile.

And on a side note, where do you live? I'm up here in Alpharetta but go to school in Buckhead.

Road Atlanta is up North in the state - just goto www.roadatlanta.com to check it out, and when the next autocross event is. (Theres one this weekend if I'm not mistaken, a Penoz driveschool or something, I believe). Considered one of the *best* auto tracks in the world! And we're close enough to drive on it! Wooooot! I am going to take my car out there for my birthday in June (little present to myself). [:)] going to work on getting my licenses first so I can get out there!

I live in Roswell, and drive over to Windy Hill/Powers Ferry (75/285 intersection area) for work. You're not too far from me it sounds. If you know where the Woodstock graveyard is (Woodstock road T's into Alpharetta hwy(Roswell Rd) just north of the Roswell fire station.) I'm about 200 yards north of that on the right... [:)]

2002's are FUN cars!! Someone posted a video here in one of the forums, of a 2002 outrunning a police car doing a autox track!! Do a search for it, you have GOT to see it..

An E30 M3 is a great car but are extremely high maintenance so unless you are a good mechanic will cost you a fortune to maintain!
