are the door mirrors always this temperamental?

My wifes car (2004 325 xi) is just one week old, the passenger door mirror controlled by the joy stick sometimes works sometimes it doesn't.

Is this a common problem?

Any ideas on why, is this more likely to be a computer problem rather than a defective switch?

Hopefully this is not an indication of more ominous problems.

TIA

BTW - I have had my Z4 2 days and no problems

Kevin

Do you have the auto tilt down on? After a short while, the mirror motor fails. Pretty common. Electricals just aren't the Germans' forte, specially BMW.

My entire passenger side mirror remote adjustment went after about 2 weeks. Dealer was able to fix the adjustment feature but a new motor is on order for the auto tilt.

After concluding that the auto tilt feature was both completely useless and carried a high failure rate, I slid the side mirror selector to the passenger side to disable the auto tilt and preserve the motor for real chores, like adjusting the mirror.

2 1/2 more hours 'till the weekend!

There's a recall on the 2004 325 side mirrors. Our car was in shop, and they received two replacement motors, but now they're missing a final part. There's a US-wide backorder.

Oh O! I just notice it this morning. I usually have it activated to guide me in parking. But I notice just this morning that it was not working. I thought I was just me ahving one of my lapses. I have a 2004 BMW 330i bought just last week.[:(]

Update: It did it again yesterday. Has anybody else at times have lost function of this feature. It currently works now. But I had situations twice already and the tilt feature does not work. I could not pin point what I did differently if any. I even double check that my Auto Mirror switch is positioned on the left and I even try to move the shifter back to drive and reverse and nothing happens. I think it comes back to normal operation after I turned the engine off and back on. I saw another thread that there is a problem with the motors inside. Maybe I'm missing something. Could somebody please let me know.

window sticker says made in Germany, well at least 80% of it. I'm sure my dealer would fix it. I even got the extended limited and maintenance warranty and they are a great dealer. But I just don't want to go there if it is working. If it totally breakdown, I'll bring it over.
I heared a lot about BMW in general having electrical issues, but when I saw the car at the dealer I did not even think about that. Glad I got my warranty though.
