I've just discovered the world of BMW! We bought our soon-to-be-16 son a 1999 323i and I have loved the way it drives. Now I want a BMW too! But... I still have 2 other kids I tote around and I don't know if I can afford to give up the room of my current car. (We were shocked to find out after we got the 323 home that my son's baseball catcher's bag doesn't fit in the trunk!).

I've got my eye on a 2004 or 2005 5-series, or possibly an X5. I haven't driven a 'car' in almost 15 years, and I would love to have a sedan if we could make due with the smaller cargo space (my hubby has an Acura MDX, but I've been driving a Chrysler Town and Country and we load it up for lots of summer travel and baseball tournaments). But, I like sitting high and the X5 would allow that. The X5 doesn't seem as luxurious as the sedan, and if I'm correct doesn't have the idrive. And it drinks more gas. Hmmm...

I'd love any input on these two cars. Should we even consider a wagon (my kids say NO)?!

Thanks in advance!

The wagons aren't really wagons, they are sports cars that just so happen to look like a wagon, think of it as an SUV that is really a car, isn't an suv a wagon on a truck chassis?

The 5 series wagon is a very good car and drives like a sports car, my suggestion go test drive one that is the only way you will know, it will have to be a new one though because the 5er and the 3er wagons are new and the old production are quite a few years old already because they have been out a production, all depends on how much you want to spend. But go drive all of them!

I agree with Matthew. BMW wagons are the most un-wagon wagon :) They handle just like a 4 door sports sedan. Wagons offer more versatility than a SUV/SAV, are easier to load, offer more cargo room, easier ingress/egress, get much better mpg and are cheaper to insure.

Def. consider the new 5er or 3er wagon.

If you're getting a wagon, it's going to have to be a 2006 and will end up costing 55-60k. It's got 255hp and AWD so I wouldn't call it a wagon. [burnout]
