My daughter just acquired a 1981 528i from a family friend.
As a new convert to BMW's - after 18 years of Volvo ownership and wrench twisting on the swede bricks - I have just discovered the wonders of Teutonic automotive engineering - other than MB. Just a short trip home last night (2 hours) and I thoroughly enjoyed the drive.
Now to the problem situation...
The trunk latch was not catching - so the PO readjusted the catch - when it clicked closed - it was set too far - and now the pushbutton release will not release the latch.
He tried to pry/pop the runk with a large screw driver - now the lid lip has a bend - and the trunk is still not accessible.
Is there a way to shim in - or gain access to the trunk - we tried through the back seat - solid steel panel there...
I do have some locksmithing experience - and am familiar with "Slim-jimming."
The pushbutton is unlocked - it simply will not release the trunk latch.
Thanks in advance for any help.
