i drive a 1991 BMW 318iS.. body model E30.. i currently have 15" rims.. they're stock.. i was wondering if i'd have to alter anything to have 17" fit.. i talk to my dad about it and he said that when i have 17" fitted.. i wont be able to make a full turn cuz the tire would drag on the fender.. and also the ride would be more bumpy.. like when i'd drive over a little bump.. the whole carz gonna feel bumpy.. he also noted that when i have the rimz put on, the carz gonna be wayy lower.. can you guyz inform me about this whole topic of 17" rimz? thank you

overall outside diameter stays the same - concept called plus sizing

if you go with a 17" rim the wall height of the tire will be reduced to maintain same OD as when you had 15" rims

Tire rack tech section will provide you with all details

this way no correction needed for speedometer and with correct rim offset the tires will not touch the fenders

well, your ride will feel harsher like your dad said and since it'll be so low profile, you'll have to be really careful with your rims. Otherwise, everything audi4t said is true. Shouldn't really be a big deal at all. a 17 inch tire shouldn't have an intolerable ride. I mean, it won't be a cream puff Lexus ride, but it never was in the first place so it's not too big a deal.

The 17" rims will give you a more harsh ride, a bit slower acceleration (assuming the rims are heavier), and a bit longer stopping distance. You have less tire, which makes for the harsher ride, and more rolling mass, which will make for the slower acceleration and longer stopping distances. But 17" is only 2" bigger and the differences should only be very marginal...it will be worth it for the improved handling and stance. [:)]
